HARLINGEN, TX. — Rafael M. Avila

83, passed away on Thursday, December 10, 2009 at his residence.

He was born October 24, 1926 to Roman and Teodosia Mata Avila in San Luis Potosi, Mexico.

He is survived by his loving family; wife of 63 years, Camila Avila of Harlingen, 6 children; Aurelia (Fred) Perez, Geneveva (Ismael) Martinez, Juan (Lupita) Avila, Roman (Leticia) Avila, Jovita (Jaime) Huerta all of Harlingen, Estella (Antonio) Martinez of Michigan,, 20 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters; Isabel A. Herrera of Toleson, AR., Maria A. Martinez of Harlingen, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his son, Rafael Avila Jr., and his grandson, Jaime Huerta Jr.

Visitation will be held today, Sunday, December 13, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. tonight.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, December 14, 2009. We will depart Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace at 1:30 p.m. for a 2:00 p.m. mass at Queen of Peace Catholic Church.

Thank you Lord Jesus for blessing us with the wonderful father we had. He leaves us many cherished memories, and will be greatly missed. We love you Dad.

Interment will then follow at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in La Feria.

Honored to be pallbearers are; Jesus Huerta, Lorena Avila, Roman Avila Jr., Victor Perez, Michael Martinez, and Alfredo Perez Jr.
