LOS FRESNOS,TX. — J.W. Carrell, Sr.
Comments 0 | Recommend 089, entered the Lord’s heavenly kingdom on Wednesday, November 11, 2009. Mr. Carrell, a long time resident of Los Fresnos, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born August 4, 1920 in Donna, Texas to Ruth and Lewis Carrell.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Floyd Wayne Carrell, infant grandson Colby Carrell, great-granddaughter Rebecca Niehaus, infant twin great great granddaughters Amber and Autumn Gange and son in law James Ashley, Sr.
Mr. Carrell was a graduate of Los Fresnos high school where he at one time held the valley record in broad jump, pole vault, and high jump. He was a graduate of Daughon’s Business College in San Antonio. He also attended Brownsville Jr. College where he was an outstanding basketball player. Mr. Carrell also served in the United States Army where he was stationed in F. Bliss, TX, he was a bookkeeper and office manager by profession.
He was a member of Los Fresnos United Methodist Church since 1934.he was treasurer for 35 years. He was also a member of the men’s group, a sunday school teacher and MYF sponsor. Mr. Carrell owned and operated the mobile gas station in Los Fresnos for a number of years. He was a bookkeeper for the Cameron County Water District #6 from which he retired.
Mr. Carrell is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Evelyn Kyle Carrell. Other survivors include his children, Ruth Anne Cole (Buster) of Columbus, TX.; Linda Kay Ashley of Springfield, OR.; Buddy Carrell (Pelma) of Los Fresnos, TX.; L.C. Carrell (Eva) of Chitton, TX.; Janet Patton (George) of Benbrook, TX. ; Nancy Bolt (Tommy) of Port Neches, TX. ; 20 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren.
A celebration of his life will be held at Los Fresnos United Methodist Church at 8:00 pm on Saturday, November 14, 2009. In
lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to Los Fresnos United Methodist Church or your favorite charity.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Henry Thomae funeral Home, 701 N. Bowie in San Benito, 399-9992.
