COMBES,TX.—Alta (Tillie) Lee Day

Alta was born in Breckenridge, Texas on January 7, 1929 to John and Matilda Day. She had been a resident of the Valley since 1932 and a resident of Combes since 1948. She received her Undergraduate and Master’s Degree from Texas A & I University in Kingsville.
Alta was a teacher at Cash Elementary in San Benito for over 31 years, a lifetime artist and enjoyed arts and crafts. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Combes for over 60 years and the church organist. She also was a member of the O.E. S. Star Chapter # 641 in Harlingen.
Survivors include nephew, Duane E. Day and wife, Bonnie of Wylie, TX; niece, Dinah Hinkle and husband Jeff of Frisco, TX; brother, W.E. “Buster” Day and wife, Laurice of Frisco, TX; great nephew, Jeff Hinkle and wife, Jamie; great nieces, Jennifer Baysinger and husband, Michael of Jacksonville, TX, Laura Lankford and husband, Brian of Savannah, TX.
Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM,, with the family receiving friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, December 18, 2009 at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.
Graveside services only will be held 10:00 AM, Saturday, December 19, 2009 at the Harlingen/Combes Cemetery in Combes, TX with the Rev. Steve Wiest officiating.
A memorial service for Alta will also be held at the First Baptist Church in Combes, 10:00 AM, Monday, December 21, 2009.
The family request that those desiring to do so may make memorial donations to the First Baptist Church in Combes, 402 Templeton St., Combes, TX 78535.
