Island Faith: Chaplain Jim Denham and wife Molly
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Chapel By The Sea welcomes new chaplain
The Chapel By The Sea recently welcomed Chaplain Jim Denham and his wife Molly to South Padre Island.
Denham comes from the Chapel In The Hills in Wimberley, where he was the minister for eight years. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at Austin and a master's in divinity from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky.
He attended Austin Presbyterian Seminary and served as minister at several other churches. He has also been a hospital and hospice chaplain.
Denham served in the U.S. Army for two years. Jim and Molly have three daughters and a grandson.
The Chapel By The Sea is on South Padre Island at the entrance to Isla Blanca Park. The multi-denominational church was founded more than 30 years ago by Valley residents. The church has no members, nor does it seek any. It is a place of worship for thousands of visitors to the Island and is open to anyone. It is an informal service and dress is casual.
Denham will be only the fourth minister in the history of the church.
Services are each Sunday with hours varying with the season. April through November service starts at 8:30 a.m., but in December and March there is an additional service at 10:30 a.m.
To facilitate the Winter Texan population, a third service is added January through February. The schedule for those months is 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. The chapel is also available for weddings, funerals and other religious services. Call 956-761-5636 for more information.
