Harlingen, TX. — Roland T. Drake
Comments 0 | Recommend 084, passed away Friday, September 25, 2009 at his residence in Harlingen.
Roland was born to Haskell Drake and Ema Brim Drake on November 18, 1924 in Jonesboro, TX. Roland graduated from Jonesboro High School in 1942 and Texas Tech University in 1950. After graduation he served in the Naval Air Corps during World War II.
Roland spent forty years coaching in Texas Public Schools. He coached football, basketball (both boys and girls), baseball and track. He retired in 1981 from Harlingen CISD after many years in East Texas, the Houston area and the Lubbock area.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Laveta Drake of Harlingen; son, Jack Drake of Harlingen; brothers, Roger Drake and Richard Drake (Maudlyn) of Lake Jackson, TX; brother-in-law, Gary Meade (Charlene) of Harlingen; sister-in-law, Jean Rambo of Lake Jackson, TX and many cousins, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Roland was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, sister, Norma Ruth Drake, sister-in-law, Mary Ann Burns Drake and many other family members and friends.
The family will gather for visitation hours at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Sunday, September 27, 2009.
Memorial services will be held at the First Baptist Church Chapel, 2:00 PM, Saturday, October 3, 2009 with the Rev. Chris Hall officiating. Reception will follow in the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
The family request that those desiring to do so may make memorial donations to the First Baptist Church, 501 E. Van Buren, Harlingen, TX 78550, Odyssey Hospice, 2501 Paredes Line Rd., Ste. B-9, Brownsville, TX 78526 or the Humane Society, 1106 Markowsky, Harlingen, TX 78550.
