DERMOTT, AR - Ismael "Smiley" Garcia, Jr.
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Age 53, of Dermott, AR., passed the gates of Heaven on Tuesday, October 7, 2008 in Portland, AR.
Smiley was born September 4, 1955 in San Benito, TX to Ismael "Red" and Irma Canales Garcia. He graduated from San Benito High School in 1975 and joined the United States Air Force where he served as a Military Police Officer. He mover to Arkansas in 1979 where he started Garcia Trucking, transporting agricultural products in the south Arkansas area.
He was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Dermott, AR., where he served on various committees and as an usher. As a faithful part of the Honduras Missions Team, Smiley provided transportation to the team members for several years before committing to becoming part of the team himself in 2007. He served as an interpreter in 2007 and 2008, leading many to the knowledge of the gospel.
He was preceded in death by a niece, Cindy Moody and his grandmother, Jaunita Canales, both of San Benito. TX.
He is further survived by his wife: Kathy Downs Garcia of Dermott, his parents: Ismael ‘Red" Garcia and Irma Canales Garcia of San Benito, TX, his sons: Smiley A. Garcia of Austin, TX, his daughter Blair Garcia Pambanchi, (Mich), of McGehee, his sister: Blanca Vela (David) of Dallas, TX, one nephew: Mike Moody of Brownsville, TX and one niece Kimberly Vela of Dallas, TX. He also leaves behind his very special canine friend, Dude.
Visitation will be Monday from 4 PM until 8 PM with a Rosary at 7 PM at Griffin Funeral Service of McGehee.
Pallbearers will be Smiley A. Garcia, Mike Moody, Lane Meredith, Kyle Phillips, Clay Vance, Rusty Case, Raymond Canales and Baldamer Canales.
Funeral services will be at 2 PM Sunday at Temple Baptist Church in Dermott with Rev. Jody Gannaway and Brother Ed Balducci officiating.
Interment will be in Tillar Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Funeral Service of McGehee.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Temple Baptist Church in Dermott.
