Arroyo Colorado water level going down

Robert Martinez, a cook at Chili’s Grill & Bar, spends his day off fishing Wednesday at McKelvey Park, where the water level in the Arroyo Colorado is noticeably lower. The water level in Harlingen dropped from 23.54 feet Sunday to 22.82 feet on Wednesday, the Interna-
tional Boundary and Water Commission Web site states. On July 8, before IBWC began releasing runoff, the water level on the Arroyo Colorado in Harlingen was 8.4 feet, the National Weather Service has said. The IBWC announced it is reducing the release of floodwater from Falcon Dam. However releases from Mexican reservoirs will need to be marginally increased, so Rio Grande Valley residents should continue monitoring National Weather Service flood warnings and forecasts, IBWC officials said.
