Harlingen police arrest man with multiple warrants

HARLINGEN — A San Benito man arrested Saturday by Harlingen police had been sought since July 4 when officers received a call about a wanted person lighting fireworks at an apartment complex in the 800 block of North 25th Street in Harlingen.

Luis Geovany Vivar called Harlingen Police Department on July 5 and threatened the officer who attempted to contact him on July 4, Harlingen police said in a statement.

Vivar was located Saturday at the same apartments and allegedly resisted arrest and assaulted an arresting officer.

He was arrested and taken to Harlingen city jail, HPD said ina statement.

Vivar was arraigned Sunday by Municipal Judge Robert Guerra on charges of obstruction/retaliation; assault on a public servant; and resisting arrest.

His bonds were set at $10,000, $10,000 and $2,500, respectively.

Vivar was also found to have two outstanding warrants from the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office and two outstanding warrants from the San Benito Police Department, HPD said.

But a spokesman for the county sheriff’s department said Vivar had three county warrants: evading arrest, graffiti and parole violation with no bonds set on any of the three.

San Benito police were unable to provide information about the warrants in that city.
