Sepulveda lands $225K position
Cameron Regional Mobility Authority hires county administrator
BROWNSVILLE — The Cameron County Regional Mobility Authority Board on Wednesday hired Cameron County Administrator Pete Sepulveda Jr. as full-time executive director, but a transition will follow before Sepulveda takes on the job with an annual salary of $225,000.
“I am extremely humbled at the opportunity to work on a full-time basis for the RMA,” Sepulveda said after CCRMA directors unanimously moved to appoint him. “I believe that the comprehensive system of projects we are developing will allow us to provide the transportation infrastructure that the population growth will demand.”
Although the CCRMA is described as an agency independent from Cameron County government, Sepulveda has been at its administrative helm since 2004 when Cameron County Commissioners Court moved to establish it. He has been receiving money from both the county and CCRMA.
Sepulveda presently receives a yearly salary of $141,000 from Cameron County plus an annual stipend of $75,000 from the CCRMA for a total of $216,000 a year.
“I am very grateful to the members of the Commissioners Court and for the confidence they have bestowed on me the last couple of years. The CCRMA Board has made it clear that a transition plan that is acceptable to Commissioners Court will be developed to ensure that county business and projects are transitioned accordingly and in a timely manner,” Sepulveda said.
CCRMA Chairman David E. Allex said the move to hire Sepulveda is in response to a critical time for Cameron County.
“We must sustain our leadership and focus exclusively on completing the remainder of our projects. Pete will phase out of the county administrator role and begin to get jobs created in our county,” Allex said in written statement.
CCRMA’s annual budget is $15.2 million generated from a vehicle registration fee that Cameron County imposes, toll equity funding, bond proceeds, toll revenues and Cameron County.
