BEEVILLE, TX.—Marshall Anthony Storey
Was born on a stormy July 31, 1925 that broke a long drought in central Texas. He passed away after a very long struggle with Parkinson’s disease and cancer on a stormy morning October 9, 2009 in Beeville, Texas.
Marshall was born in Lott, Texas and graduated from Lott High School in 1941. He entered Texas A & M that summer but his call to duty came when he turned eighteen. Not wanting to be a “foot soldier” he joined the United States Navy and served for three years in World War II first in the Atlantic and then in the Pacific. On returning home he reentered Texas A & M and graduated in August 1949 with a masters degree in Safety Engineering and Industrial Arts.
Marshall and Elizabeth (Billie) Austin were married on August 30, 1949 and went directly to Port Isabel, Texas for his first job setting up the first shop for the high school and teaching Industrial Arts. He taught in Port Isabel for nine years, becoming principal and then superintendent of schools.
In 1958 Marshall accepted a job as principal of San Benito High School and served there for fourteen years.
In 1972 Marshall changed professions and went to work for Rio Grande Savings and Loan as an insurance agent. In 1978 he and his good friend Jerry Oswald established their own agency.
Always civic minded Marshal served in many offices and positions in the Texas State Teachers Association, the Rotary clubs of Port Isabel and San Benito, the San Benito Chamber of Commerce and Life Begins at Forty. He was a true Texas A & M Aggie and a San Benito Greyhound.
After retiring in August of 2000, Marshall and Billie enjoyed traveling and entertaining the grandchildren.
Marshall was a life long member of the Church of Christ, a loving son, husband, father and grandfather and couldn’t have been prouder than when his first great grandson was named for him.
Marshall is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Elizabeth (Billie) Storey, two daughters, Garie (Jim) Elam, Beeville, Texas, and Karen (Tom) Larison, Albuquerque, New Mexico; three grandchildren, Carie Lynn (Bill) Jernigan, Austin, Texas, Steven Gregory Elam , Austin, Texas and Eric Larison, Albuquerque, New Mexico; two great grandchildren Marshall A.
