CONROE, TX. — Philip F. Zimmer, Sr.

97, died at home Monday, December 21, surrounded by his family.

He was born January 20, 1912 in Groom, Texas and lived most of his life in San Benito before moving to the Spring area in 1991.

He was a Market Manager for H.E.B. Grocery Company and retired after 43 years of service. He served in the Army in France during World War II and was a lifetime member of the VFW in San Benito. Phil was a member of Sts. Simon & Jude Catholic Church in The Woodlands.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Leila. They were married for 68 years. He was also preceded in death by 4 sisters: Sister Mary Magdelene Zimmer, Joan Zimmer, Sister Mary Ann Zimmer and Trudy Nylund and 3 brothers: Henry, Joe and Fred Zimmer.

Phil is survived by 2 children: Mary Danley and husband Larry of Spring; Phil Zimmer, Jr. and wife Frances of Richmond; a brother: John Zimmer and wife Margie of Beeville; 5 grandchildren: Larry Wayne, Melissa, David, Mike and Andy; 11 great-grandchildren: Larry William, Monica, Cameron, Steven, Janie, Danny, Courtney, Austin, Matthew, Mark and Alexis; nieces, nephews and many friends.

A memorial service will be held at the Houston National Cemetery. Fr. Thomas W. Hopper of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Conroe will be officiating.

If desired, memorials in Phil’s name may be made to the Sunny Glen Children’s Home, P.O. Box 1373, San Benito, TX 78586.
