MERCEDES, TX. — Victoria “Toya” O. Lopez

79, passed away on November 28, 2009 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on December 24, 1929 in Jalpa, Guanajuato, Mexico to Ramon and Ramona Ortiz and resided in Mercedes most of her life. A lifelong devout Catholic, she was a long time member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Mercedes, where she was a member of the Our Lady of Mercy Prayer Group. She especially enjoyed being part of the Rosary Group that performed numerous rosaries for families in the community. Victoria was known for her always cheerful personality. A loving and caring wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend, Victoria was known for her always cheerful personality that enjoyed reading and sharing her faith with others. Her strong Catholic faith made her the choice by many to be godmother for many family
members and friends throughout her life.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years Agapito B. Lopez and a daughter Rosario Lopez, sisters Josefina Ortiz of Mercedes and Carmen (+Candido) Moreno of Reedly, CA, brothers Enrique (Maria) Ortiz of McAllen and Guadalupe (Alicia) Ortiz of San Juan.

She is preceded in death by her parents Ramon and Ramona Ortiz, brothers Refugio Ortiz and Pedro (+Guadalupe) Ortiz.
A rosary will be resided Monday, November 30 at 7 pm at the funeral home chapel.

A funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, December 1 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Mercedes with interment to follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco.

Funeral services are under the direction of Garcia & Trevino Funeral Home in Mercedes.
