Richard W. “Dick” Marshall

BRYAN, TX/ DONNA, TX. — Richard W. “Dick” Marshall, 78, passed away July 20, 2011 at St. Joseph Regional Hospital in Bryan, TX.
He was born April 1, 1933 to W.W. and Florence Marshall. Dick moved to Donna in 1947 and attended Donna High School. While at Donna High, he excelled in baseball, football and basketball. Upon graduating in 1952, he went on to play professional baseball. Dick retired in 1971 from the Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol in Weslaco after many years of patrolling the highways of south Texas. After his first retirement, Dick was engaged in Produce Transportation until his final retirement in the late 90’s. Dick and Betty moved to Bryan, TX in 2006.
He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Patterson Marshall; his children, Pete Marshall of South Padre Island, TX, Kristy Marshall Johnson of Sulphur Springs, TX and Michael Marshall of Sugarland, Tx.
Also surviving are his grandchildren, Michael Marshall of El Paso, TX, Ben Marshall of San Antonio, TX, Travis Marshall of Lubbock, TX, Darby J. Brennan of Sugarland, TX, Danielle Johnson of Sulphur Springs, TX and Deanna Doles of Bryan, TX; great grandchildren, Garrett Marshall of El Paso, TX, Angelica (Geli) and Madison Doles of Bryan, TX; and sister, Mary Jo Marshall Wolf of Broken Arrow, OK.
Visitation will be held today, Sunday, July 24, 2011 from 3 pm to 5 pm at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 25, 2011 at 10 am at McCaleb Funeral Home Chapel in Weslaco. Officiating the service will be the Rev. K. Vanessa LeVine, Pastor of First United Methodist Church in Donna.
Interment will follow at Donna City Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons, Michael Marshall, Ben Marshall, Travis Marshall, Matt Doles, Jeff Brennan and his longtime friend, Larry Moore.
Arrangements are under the direction of McCaleb Funeral Home of Weslaco.
