Time Warner Cable to broadcast KHGN with digital signal

Harlingen, Texas – July 20, 2010 – Time Warner Cable customers will need digital cable boxes or newer televisions to watch the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District’s television station, KHGN-17.

Effective August 10, Time Warner Cable will be converting all of its remaining analog channels to digital format. That includes Public, Education and Government (PEG) Access channels, like KHGN.

Customers who do not subscribe to digital service will need special equipment, either a television equipped with a QAM tuner, a digital box provided by Time Warner or a CableCARD (UDCP) to view the digital channels.

QAM tuners typically appear on television sets manufactured after 2008.

Nothing will change for Time Warner customers with digital equipment. KHGN will continue airing on channel 17.

Time Warner has agreed to work with HCISD by providing cable boxes throughout the district so that our classrooms and offices can view KHGN. HCISD technology staff will be working in the coming months to make sure the transition is as seamless as possible.

As part of an effort to better serve our community, the KHGN staff and other HCISD departments have been seeking ways to broaden our audience. Parents, students, teachers, staff and community members can expect more programming available online in the forthcoming months.
