SAN BENITO, TX.—Wayne L. Stevens
Comments 0Passed away at home peacefully Monday, October 26, 2009. Wayne was born in Berwick, Louisiana on December 31, 1932 to Albert and Violet Stevens.
He married Nina Sue (Susie) Cox of San Benito on April 5, 1953 and they were blessed with three children: Sue Ann Metzger of Harlingen, Wayne L. Stevens, Jr., of Austin, and Corey Albert Stevens of Lucerne, Indiana.
Wayne was a present member of First Baptist Church, Harlingen and a former member of Baptist Temple Church of San Benito where he served as a faithful deacon for 35 years. Wayne loved the Lord and served Him faithfully. He served in the US Army from 1953-1955. Before retiring in 1991, Wayne was employed 35 years with Central Power and Light.
Wayne is survived by his wife Susie; his children Sue and Dave Metzger, Wayne and Shelley Stevens and Corey and Connie Stevens; his grandchildren, Candy and Brian Cheselski, Miranda and Aaron Hungerford, Shay Stevens and Corey Stevens Jr., his five great grandsons: twins Hunter and Tyler, Logan Riley and Reese; his brothers: Rodney Stevens of Cinnaminson, NJ, Gene Stevens of Kananga, Leyte of the Philippines, Barry Stevens of Berwick, Louisiana, Alfred Stevens of Baytown, Texas and Mark Stevens of Round Rock, Texas. He is also survived by his sisters: Patsy Stevens of San Benito, TX, Fern Van Dyke of Conroe, TX and Carol Yaudas of Magnolia, TX.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Violet, a brother, Gary Stevens, and two sisters, Ramona Lemke and Ardella Dornwall.
Services will be held at First Baptist Church, Harlingen, 10am, Friday October 30, 2009 with pastors Wade Hood and David Mann of Rangerville Baptist Church officiating.
Pallbearers will be his brothers: Rodney Stevens, Barry Stevens, Alfred Stevens and Mark Stevens, brother-in-law Bill McNutt and nephew Casey McNutt.
Our gratitude goes to Dr. Todd Shenkenberg and his staff of angels for their devoted care, kindness and comfort they were so willing to perform. Also to CIMA Hospice and caregiver Louise Young. Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.
A special thanks to friends and family who visited, called, sent cards, furnished food, offered prayers and helped out in so many ways. They truly blessed us.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to either Rangerville Baptist Church, First Baptist Church, CIMA Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Henry Thomae Funeral Home on Bowie.
