HARLINGEN,TX.— Bobby Alton Stroud

77, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, Saturday, February 6, 2010, after a courageous battle with ALS. Bob was born on September 20, 1932 in Carrizo Springs, TX. He attendeed Texas Southmost College in Brownsville, and Texas A&I in Kingsville.

In the 50’s Bob served his country in the U.S. Army. Bob had a lifelong passion for music and this passion was evident early on in his life. While fresh out of High School, Bob had his own daily radio show on KSOX in Raymondville. Later on, in 1957, Bob was proud to have the first live country/western TV show in South Texas on KRGV in Weslaco, called “Hayloft Jamboree.” It was on the set of “Hayloft Jamboree” that he met the love of his life, Evelyn Ruth Brown, whom he later married. Bob’s passion for music continued and in the 1960’s, while a staff member at Pamper Music in Nashville, TN, Bob wrote a song that was later recorded by Faron Young, called “I’ll Be Alright in the Morning”. Bob continued writing songs, playing guitar and creating music throughout his life, until ALS forced him to stop in his seventies.

In addition to having a passion for music, Bob was also an entrepreneur, owning and operating a boot manufacturing company, Longhorn Boot Company, in La Feria, TX, as well as owning and operating a prominent real estate company for many years in Brownsville, TX.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 52 years, Evelyn; their children, Kathryn Diane (David) Weinberg, Michael Shawn (Jennifer) Stroud, and Suzanne Michelle (Joseph) Parke; four grandchildren, Jason Weinberg, Matthew Herman, Joey and Lena Parke; brother, Bill Stroud; and nephews, Mark and Tracy Stroud. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, L.B. and Flora Stroud.

Visitation hours will be Wednesday, February 10, 2010 from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm with the family receiving friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in Heavenly Grace Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 11, 2010 at 2:30 pm in Heavenly Grace Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Heavenly Grace Memorial Park with full military honor’s.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the nurses and staff at Odyssey Hospice and to Dr. Victoria Parada for their help during Bob’s illness.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Heavenly Grace Funeral Home & Crematory.
