Dealing with Overweight Children
I have a daughter who is 9 years old and recently took her to doctor who was concerned about her weight. Do I put her on a diet? - Concerned Mother
According the ADA about one in three American kids and teens are overweight or obese among the children ages 2-19.
Weight gain is based on calories in versus calories out or what you eat vs what physical activity you do or don't do. Bottom line our children are eating more and doing less. Here are some tips
" Reducing intake is the easiest change. This doesn't mean take out all their favorite foods. Cut back on portions.
"Becoming more active, increased physical activity is common in all studies of successful weight reduction. Take kids to the park and get involved with them. "Parents who model healthy eating and physical activity can positively influence their children's health" according to ADA.
