UPS driver charged in crash that killed Sun editor

TOWSON, Md. — Baltimore County police say a UPS truck driver has been charged with running a red light and other violations in a crash that killed The Baltimore Sun's business editor.

Police say 28-year-old Kevin P. Callahan of Owings Mills, Md., was charged last week with negligent driving, failure to stop at a red light and failure to obey a traffic device.

Sun business editor Tim Wheatley was making a left turn Oct. 5 about two miles from his home when the truck struck the driver's side of his car. The 48-year-old Wheatley died at the scene. His 9-year-old daughter, who was in the front passenger seat, was seriously injured.

Wheatley worked for newspapers in Indiana, Minnesota, Florida and South Carolina before joining the Sun in 2006.
