Public Notification MCL Coliform Violation (TCR 22)
Public Notification MCL Coliform Violation (TCR 22)
The Military Highway WSC - Las Rusias WTP Water System (1080067) is required to submit a minimum of eleven (11) routine water samples each month for bacteriological analysis. Bacteriological samples are used to monitor water quality and indicate if the water is free from coliform bacteria. During September 2010, the water system collected three (3) routine water samples that were coliform-found (contained coliform bacteria) but the required nine (9) repeat samples were coliform-free (contained no coliform bacteria).
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) sets drinking water standards in Texas and has determined that the present of total coliform is a possible health concern. Coliforms are bacteria that are naturally present in the environment and are used as an indicator that other, potentially-harmful, bacteria may be present.
For water systems analyzing at least 40 samples per month, no more than five (5) percent of the monthly samples may be positive for total coliforms. For systems analyzing fewer than 40 samples, no more than one (1) sample per month may be positive for total coliform. Coliforms were found in more samples than allowed and this is a warning of potential problems.
This is a violation of the monitoring requirements and public notification is required for this violation. If there are any questions regarding this violation, please contact Cecilio Oblimar, Class B Water Operator, or Amado Salinas, General Manager at (956) 565-2491.
