Police say female teacher had sex with high-school boy

BROWNWOOD, Texas (AP) - A former Early High School teacher is accused of having a sexual relationship with her 18-year-old student, police said.
Joy Blackstock, 23, is free on $15,000 bond after being arrested last week on a charge of improper relationship between an educator and a student, according to Brown County Jail records.
Blackstock, who was named in a sealed indictment May 1, turned herself in Thursday at the jail after making arrangements through her attorney, said Early Police Chief David Mercer. The charge, a second-degree felony, is punishable by two to 20 years in prison.
Although the student was 18 at the time, a Texas law makes it a felony for a teacher to have sexual contact with a student in the same school, regardless of whether he or she is legally old enough to consent. In this case, he consented, Mercer said.
Blackstock resigned from last month after school officials investigated rumors about the alleged relationship, confronted her and she acknowledged it was true, Mercer said.
Blackstock declined to comment, the Brownwood Bulletin reported in Tuesday online editions. Her attorney, Dana M. Smith, did not immediately return a call Tuesday seeking comment.
The indictment alleges the sexual contact occurred several times in October and November in Early, a town of 2,600 residents near Brownwood.
