BROWNSVILLE - A 16-year-old Brownsville boy will be tried as an adult for the murder of his ex-girlfriend.
Hector Angel Herrasti Jr. is accused in the Feb. 9 stabbing death of Brenda Lee Nunez, 17.
Nunez, a senior at Pace High School, was stabbed multiple times at her family home on Gilson Road.
Police said Herrasti was obsessed with Nunez.
The seriousness of the crime was enough to get Herrasti certified to stand trial as adult during a transfer hearing held Wednesday at the Darrell B. Hester Juvenile Justice Center in San Benito, authorities said.
He remains in custody at the Carrizalez-Rucker Detention Center in Olmito after failing to post a $500,000 bond.
