The Associated Press
CANTON - Local officials said an apparent tornado today caused two injuries, flipped cars and recreational vehicles and ripped down power lines.
Canton City Secretary Julie Seymore said two people were injured in overturned vehicles and were taken to hospitals, but there was no word on their conditions.
The storm hit as visitors were beginning to show up for a popular open-air market that draws thousands to the county seat each month.
Witnesses said high winds tore through the parking lot of the market just after 8 a.m., toppling tents and snapping power lines.
Canton police reported that three cars and several trailers flipped over.
The apparent twister was part of a line of severe storms that formed Friday morning over East Texas, prompting tornado warnings.
