Man shot near Beaumont school

BEAUMONT — A Beaumont Independent School District police officer shot a man during an altercation near a campus.
BISD spokeswoman Jessie Haynes says the man shot by the officer Friday morning is not a student. Haynes says the shooting happened near an alternative school.
Assistant Superintendent Terry Ingram says the BISD officer intervened in a disturbance between two men.
The wounded man was transported to a Beaumont hospital. His condition was not immediately released.
BISD police and Beaumont police did not immediately return messages left Friday by The Associated Press.
