BP: Man used ladder to toss drugs over border fence

BROWNSVILLE — A Mexican national will appear in federal court today for his hearing on drug-related charges.
Authorities allege Victor Hugo Rodriguez-Raga, age not disclosed, used a ladder to help him toss bundles of marijuana over the border fence near Brownsville’s west side.
The marijuana weighed 339 pounds.
Rodriguez-Raga is charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute a controlled substance.
The incident happened about 9:15 a.m. Thursday. A U.S. Border Patrol Station remote video surveillance camera operator saw several men in the area of the San Felipe neighborhood, just east of Alton Gloor Boulevard and U.S. Highway 281, federal court documents states.
Rodriguez-Raga and several others were spotted using a ladder to help them toss bundles of marijuana over the border fence, the document states.
Border Patrol agents were sent to the area, where they reportedly found Rodriguez-Raga hiding in the brush about 10 yards from where the marijuana was found.
Authorities reported the other individuals with Rodriguez-Raga ran back to Mexico.
After being read his rights, Rodriguez-Raga admitted to the agents that he had helped toss the bundles of marijuana over the fence, documents state.
Rodriguez-Raga first appeared before U.S. Magistrate Ronald G. Morgan on July 15. He was denied bond and remanded to the custody of U.S. Marshals until today’s hearing.
