SOUTH OF MISSION -- A Border Patrol chase ended with two vehicles in the Rio Grande close to the construction site of the future Anzalduas Bridge.
According to spokesman Oscar Saldana, a white Dodge Durango and a brown Chevy pickup truck believed to be carrying marijuana took the road to the construction site around 8:45 a.m. while fleeing Border Patrol.
"The drivers intentionally drove both vehicles into the river," Saldana said. No construction equipment was damaged and no one was hurt, he said.
The incident happened right next to the construction area. Agents recovered nine bundles of what they believe to be marijuana, and the suspected smugglers swam back to Mexico with another 10 bundles, Saldana said.
