Comments 0 | Recommend 0MERCEDES - Police said they arrested a couple Tuesday after a tip led them to a restaurant parking lot where the couple was found with cocaine.
Alfonso Ibarra, a correctional officer with the Texas Youth Commission, and Melba Ibarra, an employee with the La Feria Independent School District, were both charged with possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute, police said.
They were arraigned Wednesday, each with bond set at $50,000.
Mercedes Police Chief Olga Maldonado said police received a tip about the couple, but would not say what the tip was.
The tip led them to Chili's restaurant along the frontage road of U.S. Expressway 83 where the couple was expected to make a delivery, Maldonado said.
In their car, the couple had 70 grams of cocaine, Maldonado said.
She would not explain how the discovery was made or how police made contact with the couple.
