Sgt. Andy Muniz Jr., HPD's coordinator for the STEP program, said the department has entered into an agreement with TxDOT to initiate a year-long program to reduce traffic-related injuries and deaths through public education and enforcement of traffic laws.
The grant will be used to hire HPD officers on overtime pay to enforce seatbelt, driving-while-intoxicated and speeding laws, officials said.
