SAN BENITO - A farewell to Hurricane Dolly will be sung tonight at the Tunes by the Trail concert at the W.H. Heavin Amphitheater.

The public is invited to come celebrate "the demise" of the hurricane that tore through South Texas last week.

Power is on at the amphitheater on 705 N. Bowie St. and residents and visitors are encouraged to participate in the outdoor, waterfront performances.

"We will have all of the regulars on hand to sing oldies from the 1940s through the 1970s," said organizer Carlos Cañas, who himself will perform.

Tonight's event features oldies, classics, American standard, Spanish ballads and rock and roll.

Formerly called Tunes by the Tracks at the Veterans Pavilion, the events now have a new venue at the amphitheater.

Thursday evening's event is scheduled from 6-10 p.m. Admission is free, and local residents are encouraged to volunteer to sing or perform.

The rock-and-roll night on Friday, called Rockin' by the Resaca, will not be conducted this month.

The concert program was initiated by local performers last year and has grown since its inception. Organizers hope to see the event continue to expand into the coming years. Additional Tunes by the Trail events are scheduled the final Thursday and Friday evenings of August.
