    La Feria hurricane update

    Comments 0 | Recommend 0

LA FERIA - Hurricane Dolly tore roofs off homes and businesses, drowning subdivisions in 6 feet of floodwater and partly collapsing a building, officials said.

"There are several structures destroyed," City Manager Sunny Philip said. "The roofs pulled away from several buildings."

Heavy rains and winds of up to 100 mph pounded Buyers Inc. on Business 83, forcing the side of the building to collapse, Philip said.

City crews evacuated residents from the Mariposa subdivision off White Ranch Road, where floodwaters swelled as high as 6 feet, Mayor Steve Brewer said.

"There's cars flooded with water up to their windshields, five or six feet deep," Brewer said.
