TRAFFIC UPDATE: Mercedes-La Feria

LA FERIA -- Eastbound traffic has been rerouted onto the access road between Mercedes and La Feria as work crews begin reconstruction of the last stretch of old Expressway 83, a 1.5 mile strip straddling the Hidalgo-Cameron county line.

The detour applies only to the eastbound lanes. The westbound lanes are still configured as they were last week.

Also, work crews are installing lights atop the Rabb Road overpass in La Feria.

Barrels have been removed through most of the construction zone in Harlingen, but the new third lane will not be marked and opened for several months.

Motorists should remember that the speed limit of 55 mph remains in effect through the entire construction zone.
