Report: Hamas proposes 6-month cease-fire with Israel

   CAIRO, Egypt - Egypt's state run news agency says Hamas is proposing a six-month cease-fire with Israel if the Jewish state would agree to simultaneously lift its blockade of Gaza.
   The MENA agency says the offer came Thursday after a full day of closed-door meetings between an Egyptian mediator and key Hamas official Mahmoud Zahar.
   But any agreement still appears distant because the violent Islamic group is demanding Israel open its border crossings. And although Egypt clearly is acting as a communications channel, Israel insists it won't even negotiate with Hamas - considered a terrorist group by both Israel and the U.S.
