HARLINGEN — There is about one more week for parents, teachers and students within the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District to participate in an online survey offered by The Speak Up National Research Project.
The technology survey closes Jan. 21 and is spearheaded by Project Tomorrow, a California-based nonprofit group that supports new and creative uses of science, math and technology in schools.
Harlingen High School and Harlingen High School South are the only campuses specifically listed for the 2011 survey.
However, anyone may take the survey online. The district’s password is “harlingen.”
Visit www.speakup4
schools.org/speakup2010 to take the survey.
A June report released by Project Tomorrow found online learning is becoming a major education component for students, teachers and parents.
The report found the number of high school students taking online classes for school credit has almost doubled since 2008, while the number of teachers who have taught online classes has tripled since then.
At least 33 percent of parents reported taking an online class for their own professional needs or personal interests, according to the same report.
Survey results for 2011 will be available to participating schools and districts online, free of charge, beginning February.
Project Tomorrow claims the Speak Up survey represents the largest collection of input from students, teachers and parents and is used to inform federal, state and local education programs.
