Local man charged with assaulting daughter with knife
HARLINGEN — A Harlingen man was arrested Wednesday after police said he broke into his daughter’s home and held a knife to her stomach.
According to the Harlingen Police Department, Jesus Domingo Vela, 62, was intoxicated when he arrived at his daughter’s home in 1000 block of Sul Ross Avenue Wednesday.
Police said the woman, 24, called police after Vela held a knife to her stomach and repeatedly yelled at her.
Police said when officers arrived at the scene, Vela had put away the knife and appeared calm.
Vela was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and taken to the city jail, police said. He was arraigned Thursday and his bail was set at $30,000, police said.
H HARLINGEN — Police arrested a Harlingen man on burglary charges in connection with a late January break in, according to a police release.
According to the Harlingen Police Department, Roberto Rodriguez, 20, was arraigned Thursday and charged with burglary of a habitation. His bail was set at $30,000.
Police said on Jan. 24, a 41-year-old man reported a break-in at his home in the 1500 block of Washington Palm Drive. Police said Rodriguez entered the home by breaking a bedroom window. Police said it was unclear if Rodriguez had taken anything from the home.
Rodriguez was arrested Jan. 31 on an outstanding municipal court warrant, police said. Rodriguez was charged by complaint after his arrest, police said.
H SAN BENITO — A 52-year-old San Benito man was released on a $5,000 bond Thursday after a 31-year-old woman accused him of sexual assault, a police official said Thursday.
Police arrested Arturo Muñoz on Wednesday at his home in the 300 block of South Oscar Williams Road on a warrant that accused him of assaulting the woman after they drank in his apartment on Jan. 11, police Operations Chief Martin Morales said.
After the combination of her medication and alcohol made her fall asleep, the woman said she awoke and felt the man groping her, Morales said.
The woman accused the man of touching her genitals, Morales said.
