Port Isabel to vote on officials' terms
PORT ISABEL — City commissioners will vote on first reading today to extend terms of the mayor and city commissioners from two years to three.
The ordinance to be voted will extend the terms in January following each commissioner or mayor’s election or re-election, the meeting agenda states.
Commissioners will also vote on an ordinance to increase commissioners’ compensation from $48 a month to $100, and to increase the mayor’s compensation from $96 a month to $150.
The issues will be voted at a special meeting at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 305 E. Maxan St.
Also to be voted on first reading an ordinance that would create “Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone Number One of City of Port Isabel and establishing a tax increment fund.”
The zone is planned to divert tax money to complete development of the Modern Venice area, also known as “The Fingers.”
Also on the special meeting agenda are:
Filing a grant application with the Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council for a regional solid waste grant program.
Approval of a $35,000 loan request from D’Netta Moore, Dee Dee’s Boutique, from a Port Isabel EDC revolving loan fund.
Approval for Public Works Director Baldemar Alaniz to take a street sweeper to San Antonio Feb. 6-7 for repairs.
