HUNTSVILLE — Officials say a 14-year-old driver died and a 13-year-old passenger was injured after their car slammed into a pole during a high-speed chase with a state trooper in southeast Texas.
Department of Public Safety spokesman Tom Vinger says the trooper tried to pull over the Honda Civic early Tuesday morning, but the car sped away.
Vinger says the car flipped a short time later and hit a pole in Huntsville, killing Kolin Johnson of Conroe.
He says the passenger, Gustavo Casillas, also of Conroe, was taken to a Houston hospital.
Vinger did not know why the trooper tried to pull the car over.
DPS Sgt. Terry Barnhill says car was traveling at over 100 mph when it crashed.
Preliminary reports say the teens weren't wearing seatbelts.
