HARLINGEN — Dr. Julio Leon, the Special Advisor to the University of Texas System’s Office of Academic Affairs, explained the planning process, steps and current status of the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley at the Buenos Dias Chamber of Commerce meeting on Wednesday morning.
It is currently in Phase II which is blueprinting and strategic planning. The next and final phase, which is accreditation and implementation, is scheduled to start in September.
He said uniting the University of Texas at Brownsville and the University of Texas-Pan American to form the new University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley will impact the whole region because the new university will be specifically designed to serve the needs of the Rio Grande Valley.
It will create a unified force for the whole region, he said.
