HARLINGEN — Doctors Rajesh Tampi and Marian Moca were introduced Monday as the new directors of the psychiatry residency program at the Regional Academic Health Center.

The RAHC is a a part of the new University of Texas medical school being brought to the Rio Grande Valley, and is now operating under the auspices of the UT Health Science Center School of Medicine at San Antonio.

Dr. Leonel Vela, RAHC regional dean and professor, introduced the two psychiatrists to UT System employees, Harlingen elected officials, school district officials, community leaders and other interested parties.

Tampi was named the founding director of the general adult psychiatry residency program, and Moca was named the director of the child and adolescent fellowship program. Together they are now assembling a staff for the program, and are developing a medical and educational curriculum for accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.
