Tip leads police to marijuana and handgun

BROWNSVILLE - A Crime Stoppers tip led authorities to the seizure of more than 67 pounds of marijuana and the arrest of one man.

Eduardo De La Fuente, 31, was arrested Wednesday afternoon and charged with possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, according to a press release from Brownsville police.

On Thursday morning, De La Fuente went before a municipal judge who set bail at $65,000 and sent him to Carrizalez-Rucker Detention Center.

De La Fuente was arrested after police followed up on the tip and got a search warrant for his residence at the 400 block of San Cristobal Street, the press release said.

Police found a large bundle of marijuana in the main bedroom of the residence and a loaded black semiautomatic handgun nearby, the release said. The marijuana had an approximate weight of 67.72 pounds.
