MISSION — Two people died after the pickup truck they were travelling in crashed into an expressway median late Monday night.

A pickup truck driven by a woman was headed south on Taylor Road near Expressway 83 shortly before midnight Monday, said Mission police Sgt. Jody Tittle. The driver apparently disregarded the stop sign at the westbound frontage road, crossed the westbound expressway lanes and crashed into the concrete median.

The collision caused the pickup truck to burst into flames.

Both the woman and her passenger, a man, died at the accident scene, Tittle said. Both victims were in their early 20s.

Police have identified the victims but declined to release their names early Tuesday morning. It remains unclear whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.
