HARLINGEN — A Harlingen teen remains hospitalized after he was shot multiple times early Wednesday, police said.

Basillio Lopez, 17, was shot in the abdomen shortly after midnight, David Osborne, Harlingen police public information officer said. The shooting occurred near 800 W. Pierce at F Street, he added.

“He was transported to Valley Baptist Medical Center with at least one gunshot to the abdomen area,” Osborne said. “We believe it was with a small caliber handgun.”

Osborne said no arrests have been made, but investigators are talking to witnesses and working on leads.

The motive of the shooting is still under investigation as well, Osborne added.
