AUSTIN - Edcouch-Elsa High School has been cleared to compete in the Texas football playoffs after a committee unanimously agreed that the undefeated team didn't use an ineligible player.
The State Executive Committee of the University Interscholastic League ruled today that the South Texas team didn't violate transfer rules by letting the player participate. Had the player been ruled ineligible, Edcouch-Elsa would have forfeited all 10 victories and been kicked out of the playoffs.
Edcouch-Elsa was ranked 10th in Class 4A in the final Associated Press poll. The team plays Corpus Christi Tuloso-Midway in a bi-district game Friday night.
