PHARR — Witnesses told police a motorist cut in front of a SUV late Monday evening, causing it to roll over and kill two of its occupants.

The accident occurred about 6:50 p.m. Monday at the 3800 block of North Expressway 281 in Pharr, at the offramp for the Nolana Loop exit.

Witnesses told police a red Chevrolet Corsica cut in front of a white 2002 Ford Explorer, causing the driver to swerve and roll over near the inside lane, Pharr police said.

The driver, 20-year-old Maria Guadalupe Hernandez of Katy, Texas, died at the accident scene, police said. One of the passengers, 9-year-old April Garcia, died by the time she arrived at an area hospital.

Two other passengers, Pharr residents Maria Ester Hernandez, 20, and Raul Hernandez, 16, were treated at an area hospital and released.

Several witnesses to the accident said both vehicles were headed north at the time of the accident. The driver of the Corsica failed to stop after the fatal rollover.
