1 dead, 1 in critical condition following Brownsville shootings

Brownsville Police are investigating a weekend shooting that left one person dead and another in critical condition.

According to police spokesman detective Eddie Garcia, the shooting took place at about 4:30 a.m. Sunday on the east side of town near Iowa Street.

Responding police officers found one body with multiple gunshot wounds on the north side of Bernal Street.

A second victim was found near the intersection of Acapulco and Veracruz streets, also with multiple gunshot wounds. The man who survived was transported to a San Antonio Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition Sunday afternoon.

Because of the early stages of the investigation, police didn’t release the names of the victims, the number or place of the gunshot wounds, the caliber of the weapons or a motive for the shooting.
