    Valley Morning Star

HARLINGEN - Police are looking for a man who tried to break into a dollar store by smashing the front glass door with a 7-foot galvanized pipe.

The burglary led to a manhunt that involved an aerial search by a helicopter crew and a search of the Arroyo Colorado by boat.

Police said the attempted break-in occurred shortly before midnight Wednesday at the Family Dollar store at 110 Rangerville Road.

When a police officer arrived, the man ran from the scene, the report said. The officer said the suspect was wearing a black muscle shirt, black shorts and tennis shoes. The officer found the pipe and the smashed door.

Authorities used a helicopter and boat to search along the Arroyo Colorado in the area of Expressway 77/83 and Rangerville Road during the early morning hours but by 3:30 a.m. had given up the search.
