Power outages in Harlingen, La Feria
HARLINGEN- A power outage has been reported in the area of Harlingen High School. Sporadic outages are reported in La Feria.
A tree at Palm Court and Lincoln Avenue was blown over into the street. Wind damage also was reported at FM 1732 and FM 1420, where a traffic signal was reported down.
As Hurricane Dolly neared South Padre Island at 8:30 a.m., wind gusts were interspersed with periods of silence.
Power at many hotels and condominiums had been flickering until about 7 a.m., when power went out completely in many hotels. Sporadic power outages also are occuring at the South Padre Island Police Department.
No major damage had been reported as of 8:30 a.m.
Utility poles next to the Howard Johnson's Hotel on Padre Boulevard at Palm Street swayed in all four directions and power lines went back and forth while popping noises could be heard.
Only police vehicles and news media vans were seen on street as rain grew more intense.
