La Villa mayor arrested on prostitution, official oppression charges
EDCOUCH — Police arrested La Villa Mayor Hector Elizondo on official oppression and prostitution charges.
Elizondo was formally charged with two counts of official oppression and two counts of prostitution during an arraignment early Monday afternoon.
A municipal judge released Elizondo on a personal recognizance bond.
Eloy Cardenas, police chief in La Villa and Edcouch, said Elizondo's arrest came after a six month investigation by the department.
When asked why Elizondo was arrested today, the chief said an event occurred Monday morning that prompted officers to arrest the mayor, but would not elaborate.
Elizondo has retained Robert J. Salinas of Donna to represent him in the case.
