Police: Couple resists arrest after assault

BROWNSVILLE - Police arrested a couple for assaulting a public servant and resisting arrest for having repeatedly pushed a police officer, according to a police report.
The report states that the incident took place at 1 p.m. Sunday when a patrolman noticed Tomas Carrizalez Castillo, 49, driving in a reckless manner. The officer saw Castillo run two stoplights, pass a stop sign and pass several vehicles in a dangerous manner, nearly loosing control of the automobile at times, according to the report.
As the vehicle came to a stop at 1180 Las Mananitas, the officer saw Castillo bolt for the front door, according to the report. The officer caught up with him and tried to arrest him, and a struggle ensued, police said.
During the struggle, Maria Castillo, 46, came out and began pushing the police officer in order for her husband to get away, the report stated. The couple was able to get inside the house and lock the door while the officer waited for backup, according to the report.
After backup arrived, officers found the couple in a bedroom, where they were arrested.
Tomas Castillo was charged with reckless driving, evading arrest, resisting arrest and assault on a public servant. Maria Castillo was charged with interfering with the duties of a public servant, and hindering an apprehension.
