Family feud turns deadly in Monte Alto

EDINBURG -- A Monte Alto man faces murder charges after a family feud turned deadly Friday night.

Rudy Reyes, 44, told investigators Saturday that he shot and killed Hector Garza, 24. He died from at least one gunshot to the chest, deputies said.

Garza's relative, Gilbert, 29, was also shot in the leg and chest, but he survived, deputies said.

Reyes was detained Saturday morning at the Hidalgo County Jail.

The shooting happened Friday on Cielo Lane, near the intersection of Farm-to-Market Road 88 and Valdez Road.

Reyes will be formally charged with murder and attempted murder later today, said Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Treviño.
