Several students accused of deflating school buses' tires
Comments 0 | Recommend 0LOS FRESNOS - School district investigators have accused several students of deflating the tires of 60 school buses before the beginning of Tuesday's school day.
The school district would not disclose the number of suspects or the consequences they will face. However, at Los Fresnos High School, rumors circulated without abandon.
"We hear they're in jail," one student said, speaking anonymously. "It's a violation against the school, and I think it's fair that they go to jail."
On Thursday afternoon, school district officials suggested that the students would not likely be allowed to walk in the school's commencement ceremony on Saturday, but that they will receive their diplomas in the mail.
The decision not to allow the students to walk in the ceremony has not yet been finalized.
"We're still not sure what the next step is," said Birdie Rodriguez, executive director for support services at the school district.
"I think it would be fair if they're not allowed to walk," said another Los Fresnos High School student. "They don't let kids walk for a lot less. If you have a missing library book, you can't walk. So this decision seems logical."
After the school buses' tires were deflated, school district employees spent nearly two hours remedying the situation. Delays were felt at local elementary and middle schools and the high school.
