Sheriff's office releases piracy sting identities of 37

EDINBURG -- Thirty-seven people were arrested for selling illegally dupilicated DVDs and CDs at the Val-Verde Flea Market near Donna on Wednesday.

Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Treviño said the arrested would be charged with breaking the Texas law against improper labeling of sound or image recordings.

Adopted in 1989, the law prohibits the sale, resale, rental or transportation of a recording for personal financial gain if the outside packaging of the recording doesn't clearly and conspicuously disclose the actual name and address of the manufacturer and the name of the performer or group. Violations of the law are punishable by up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

The following people were booked on labeling charges late Wednesday at the Hidalgo County Adult Detention Center:
